Here at Out in the Bay our goal is to provide an avenue of support for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or intersex (LGBTQI) in the Lancaster and Morecambe area. Despite advances in furthering the rights of LGBTQI people, the realities of our lives remain poorly understood by people in society who may discriminate against us as a result. When this is combined with other factors such as race, gender and class to further compound the isolation we may feel, particularly in the wider Lancashire area where access to crucial services and social contact can vary widely depending on where one lives.
We aim to change that by offering a combination of regular drop-in sessions for LGBTQI people, peer-led support groups for those suffering from long-term health conditions including Hepatitis C and HIV, providing a venue for volunteer-led social groups dedicated to specific elements of the LGBTQI community, the issues that we face, such as our trans men and trans women groups.
